International Women’s Day: QA with Hillary Long

If you’ve met the team at Citro Digital, you know that we’re composed of so many amazing women! Some of us are writers, runners and podcast enthusiasts, while others are reality tv junkies with a passion for social media and website development. It’s because of our unique identities that we continue to inspire each other every day to learn more and do more; not only for ourselves, but for our clients.

In honor of International Women’s Day, we wanted to celebrate the woman who has given us the opportunity to do what we love and who leads us fearlessly everyday - Citro Digital General Manager Hillary Long. Learn more about what drives her to success as a woman in a leadership position from our sitdown Q&A with her!

Are there any women who have helped mentor you to become the leader you are today?

I have always been surrounded by strong women. My grandmother was a holocaust survivor and my mother powered through life with a chronic illness. I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by strong and intelligent women through my education and into the workforce - both as leaders and colleagues.

How do you continue to stay motivated?

I love learning. The chance to learn, grow and teach every day excites me. I am lucky enough to have found a career path that is consistently exciting and that bridges both my analytical side as well as my creative side. Those two together create the perfect storm for me.

What are some of the advantages to being a female leader in today's work climate? What are some of the disadvantages?

I think the marketing industry is traditionally a man’s world (think Mad Men). However, women are storytellers and decision makers in purchasing, and they have a great understanding of how marketing influences and shapes our decisions. I find it inspirational to see so many women leaders out there making a real difference.

What's an accomplishment you are proudest of?

I am proudest to have a team of truly talented individuals who work together so well. It is hard to imagine it any other way. I think that as a leader, I have overcome many challenges. I’ve had many failures and disappointing moments, but through them, I have seen myself grow in ways I didn't even know were possible. I still have growing to do, but I am proud to have a team that (I hope) enjoys working alongside of me as much as I enjoy working alongside of them.

If you could tell your 18-year-old self one thing, what would it be?

Don't change and don't worry so much!

What's one core message you want your female employees to know?

I’d like them to know that they can do anything they set their mind to. There is nothing and no one in their way.
