3 Books you need to read this summer.
If I was back in high school, the librarian would be my best friend.
I have always been a reader. I grew up in a house where reading was preferred over mindless TV watching. To this day, my father, aka the “wordsmith” as coined by his friends, likes to throw obscure words at me to see if I can define them. The interaction is similar to talking to Siri. When I fail, he blames my alma-mater (Sorry PSU!) My summer reading often involved too much sun and plenty of murder mysteries, generally John Grisham or a good Tom Clancy novel. But this year, the game has changed. I have found myself on the positive vibes kick, often opting for an inspirational or information-packed book. I have found these reads to be helpful in all areas of my life. They have expanded my thoughts on leadership, relationships, and life as a whole.
I am not an official book reviewer, but, since these books have had a positive impact on me, I would like to pass it forward. So, without further ado- here are my 3 must reads this summer that will change your state of mind and give you plenty to think about while working on your tan.
You are a Badass
The first book on my list was recommended by a friend whom it had just inspired. When she sent me the free audible link, I rolled my eyes and thought there was no way I would ever find this book to be of any value! I could not have been more surprised by You are a Badass, How to stop doubting your greatness and live an awesome life, by Jen Sincerno. What I love about this book; If you are itching to make a change in your life, or just want a deeper connection with yourself - to truly understand why you make the decisions you make, read this. There was a time when just the idea of anything resembling ‘self-help’ would have me running the other way. But trust me, if you are ready to unlock your own potential, you are worth the time and so is reading this book!
Unshakeable
I was lucky enough to attend the Tony Robbins UPW event in San Jose this April - and it changed my life. After returning home, I needed to keep that positive focus alive. Not only did I immediately read the book they gifted us, but I have since made listening to Tony's podcasts a daily ritual. The universe does in fact give us what we need. If you have any doubts - start following Tony. Since my first exposure to Unshakable this spring, I have become a die hard Tony Robbins fan. I have a friend who had been preaching TR for years, and I could never relate. You don’t have to jump all the way in, but if you want to better understand how to create success, replace fear with facts. Get on the path to financial freedom no matter what that looks like to you. Start with Unshakeable.
Everybody Lies
Have you ever wondered what people are really searching for online? One of the things that has satisfied my curiosity is working in the world of Search! This book brings our online behaviors and big data to a whole new level. Everybody Lies, What the Internet Can Tell Us About Who We Really Are, by Seth Stephens-Davidowitz is absolutely fascinating. You must approach this book from a place of learning as there are sensitive topics, but it is worth the read. From a marketing marketing perspective, it will truly stretch your thoughts, as the data presented is raw and honest. I don’t discuss the details of the book, rather I share it with friends.Added Bonus. When you are on the positive train, because really- where else would you rather be?- check out Gary Vaynerchuck’s book Crushing It!
